Mazor Surgical Technologies enters into an Exclusive Worldwide License with the Cleveland Clinic for Innovative Robotic Assisted, Percutaneous Spine Surgery

Cleveland Clinic Spine Surgeons will lead an International Faculty Group to Conduct Clinical Research and Development

CAESAREA, Israel and ATLANTA Georgia, April 28, 2008 – Mazor Surgical Technologies, a medical technology company dedicated to the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of products for the surgical treatment of spinal disorders, announced the entry into an exclusive worldwide license with the Cleveland Clinic for an innovative Robotic Assisted, Percutaneous interbody spinal fusion technology.

The license agreement will provide Mazor the opportunity to commercialize a new solution called Guided Oblique Lumbar Interbody Fusion Solution (GO-LIF™). Mazor and Cleveland Clinic will jointly attempt to develop a proprietary minimally invasive implant that aims to achieve stability and fusion using a unique approach. This approach is made possible with Mazor’s robotic guidance system, SpineAssist®, and the clinical expertise of the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Spine Health.

It is estimated that in the United States alone, over four hundred thousand people have back disease that is treated through spinal fusion procedures. The GO-LIF approach is aimed at providing a superior solution for many of these patients. In addition, GO-LIF may be able to address many of the surgeons’ concerns regarding minimally invasive surgery as GO-LIF implants and approach are less complex than many existing MIS systems. Enabled by the guidance of SpineAssist, GO-LIF may significantly reduce need for fluoroscopic imaging to verify accurate placement of implants.

“We are very excited to enable a new clinical procedure that patients can benefit from. This product provides a revolutionary and unique solution to the spine surgeon in dealing with patients needing spinal fusion,” said Ori Hadomi, Mazor’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is one more example of our commitment to providing solutions targeted at serving the needs of the patient, the spine surgeon and the marketplace. It is a great privilege to have been selected to work with the Cleveland Clinic to commercialize this technology.”

“We are pleased to be a part of this project, and feel our research has the potential to greatly benefit patients.” said Isador Lieberman, M.D., Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon at Cleveland Clinic.
